Dog breeds of all shapes and sizes and from all fitness levels can enjoy and benefit from several types of dog sports. Whether you have a toy breed or one that needs a little push in order to get motivated, you can get your dog involved in one of several types of canine sports.

Besides the benefit of more in depth bonding with your dog, your 4 legged friend by nature enjoys the challenge of sports and competition. It gives them a freedom and satisfaction that only sports and challenge offers.

The trick is finding the right trainer for your dog. You want to do your research and find which sports are ideal for your dog and then find a trainer to help you to prepare and meet the requirements your dog will need to participate. Don’t just find any trainer, find the most qualified trainer to train you and your dog.

Be sure to view this sites wide selection of dog clothing

Find a qualified trainer to train both you and your dog. In most cases, you won’t find a piece of paper stating that the trainer is well-qualified, but one who has experience competing in the sport of your choice or other types of canine sports should be considered. The trainer should also possess knowledge on current training methods as well as information about upcoming events and trials.

For all the novices out there who are new to training with your dog for a specific dog sporting event, there are some key factors you must understand before beginning your training regimen.

The number one issue that comes up in the majority of dog owners who are new to dog sports is becoming overly frustrated when trying to teach dogs a new skill. It is important to remember that positive training is always the number one solution to your goals. Avoid getting angry and do not sweat the small stuff, especially when you and your dog are both learning something new together.

Do you need some great dog supplies.

Again the key thing is to have fun and for your dog to have fun! If they are not learning or are having difficulty time means they are not having a good time and will not perform well and will frustrate them. So if your first choice is not going well, change! Try something else such as agility, disc dog, or even musical freestyle. Last but not least, spend as much time with your dog training as possible! This does not mean to subject your dog to tireless training. You simply want to add training to their daily exercise routine and remember POSITIVE TRAINING! It is detrimental to your dog’s mental as well as their physical training for sports if you are being impatient, upset, and scolding. So you will want to make sure that you train more but train better by positive methods! Using new toys, treats, positive re-enforcement, and affection is going to help you meet that goal of motivation and fun during your sporting event!

You will want to take a look at this dog carrier.

When shopping for a suitable dog toy for your new puppy, you might come across thousands of different dog toys available. Colored ones, big ones, small ones that comes with different types, materials and shapes. With all these amazing dog toys available, which one are you going to pick?

Here are a few ideas to guide you into buying a safe dog toy for your dog :-

a) Do a research on the breed of your dog on the World Wide Web. If he is a guard dog like a Pitt Bull buy them dog chew toys. Knowing what character your dog possesses is the first start to choosing the most suitable dog chew toys your dog will grow to love. Talking to a professional veterinarian will help you save money by picking the right dog toy for your pup.

b) The size of your dog toys matters as well. If you have a small size dog, choose a small dog toy for them. But make sure it is not too tiny because they may accidentally swallow or choke on the small dog toy if left unsupervised. Plush dog toys are normally suitable for them because they are soft and fluffy and comes with colorful shapes and sizes. Small pooch are like children, when they look at these special shapes and colors, they will feel happy , excited and good for fun times.

If your small puppy have teething problem and they seem to chew on anything they could get their mouths on it is only best to buy dog chew toys such as dog Kong toys or toys that could be chilled and let your dog chew or bite for teeth and gum relaxation. Normally for Kong toys, you can stuffed some dog biscuits inside the toy. These dog toys are normally made out of rubber and they are very durable. The rubbers used are non-abrasive, non-splintering, non-toxic and does not get sharp when chewed. It also satisfies a dog’s natural need to chew and also cleans the teeth and conditions the gums.

For dogs who are active and intelligent, puzzle and treat teaser toys will test their minds. These toys are specially made for educating dogs through play and also test their minds by solving puzzles. Always make sure that the toys you buy for them are durable and won’t come loose and swallowed unknowingly..

You would have known by now what are the positive aspects of buying a dog toy for your dogs. They are made to educate your dog’s mind and at the same time they are also made to keep the dogs company when their owners are not around. Once again, take into account about the likes, size, chewing strength and intelligence of the dog toys. Make your purchase worthwhile at a discount dog supplies store and also at the same time keep your dog’s playtime interesting and fun.

Discovering the outside world is one of the most exciting and new experiences that a young puppy can have. Every little movement and sound that your puppy notices for the first time is both invigorating and scary at the same time.

The same goes for you, the owner. You want your dog to discover new things and become socialized, but are fearful that something might go wrong. Caution is the number one factor that should be taken into consideration when introducing your puppy to the outside.

Before you have any type of outdoor play especially if you are going to have canine play dates, make sure your puppy is up to date on all their shots as with puppy’s canine puppy friends are all up to date on their shots as well!

Do not let your puppy run around with strange dogs until he has been completely immunized. The age is typically between 15 and 20 weeks before all shots are given by the veterinarian. And keep a watchful eye over these other dogs when your puppy is out playing with them.

If you and your dog are having fun in a public area specifically designated for dogs, like a dog park or some place similar, take notice of the other animals. Are they coughing or sneezing? Do any of the other dogs appear to be going to the bathroom with diarrhea? The basic idea here is to do your best to keep your puppy away from potentially sick animals as best possible.

If your dog needs some clothes to keep him warm, then check out these dog sweaters view them now!

In other words, keep your puppy away from piles of rocks, tangled bushes, or wood. These areas in the wild can harbor potentially dangerous, and sometimes fatal accidents just waiting to happen. Venomous snakes and other dangerous animals, such as porcupines or skunks, could be lurking and waiting for the opportunity to strike at your little dog.

One other thing to keep in mind, is that some of the small critters that your puppy may curiously chase and dig after could be dangerous. Poisonous snakes and animals like porcupines and skunks can cause serious problems so keep a close watch on what puppy may dig up or chase after.

If for some reason that your puppy does run into such an accident and is bitten or injured by one of these animals, get away as fast as possible and contact your veterinarian. Should a snakebite occur or other similar type injury that penetrates the dog’s skin, it is best to go directly to your vet. Do not wait. Some of these bites can be fatal.

Support Your Dogs Digging Habit

When you get yourself a puppy, you will quickly find out how much that they truly enjoy digging. Digging is a natural instinct that is also a favorite past time to all dogs. The more sporting that the dog’s breed is, the more that they love to dig.

Furthermore, digging is also a way for the dog to relieve stresses. You will find that when you invite a new baby into the home that a puppy will dig more often. As the dog’s anxiety levels increase, digging is a way for the dog to relieve stress.

Fortunately there are ways in which you can help diminish your puppy’s digging behavior so that it is less destructive to your belongings while at the same time giving him a place to dig without being punished for it.

Training a dog not to dig his claws into areas that are not allowed requires a few steps to accomplish but when it is all said and done, the amount of destruction will be minimized.

1. For starters, you need to find the spot in which your dog loves to dig more than anything else. This digging spot could be inside of your home, at a park or even in your back yard. Knowing where your dog loves to dig can help you to remedy the digging issue.

2. Make it fun for your puppy to dig by burying some of his toys and bones underneath the dirt. Now play with your dog and start digging with him so you can both play the game of looking for his toys while digging. It becomes a lot of fun to watch your puppy dig along with you in search of his hidden treasure.

3. Every day, go back to your dog’s digging area and instruct him to start digging by giving him a command. This command could be as simple as “Sparky, Go Dig!” After a while he will immediately begin clawing at the dirt in wild anticipation for the fun that lay ahead.

4. If you see your puppy digging in any area other than his digging spot, be sure to correct him with a firm “NO!” And then guide him to his proper digging location. This is the same protocol that you would use when housebreaking a puppy after he makes a mess in the house. Eventually, your dog will seek out his digging area when he feels the urge to dig away.

Do you need to purchase some great Dog shampoo be sure to check out this site right now. Also be sure to view the wide variety of Dog supplies right now!

Potty Training – Potty Train Your Puppy In 4 Easy Steps

Perhaps the first and foremost concept of training a new puppy is the potty training. Everyone knows that this is a dreaded yet eventual form of training for any new puppy regardless as to whether they will be an inside or outside dog. Just like a baby, knowing where it is ok to use the bathroom is not a natural instinct and therefore training must ensue to ensure that your puppy knows right from wrong.

The first thing you need to keep in mind is that all animals have a natural instinct to avoid soiling the very place in which they sleep and eat. Of course brand new puppies may not get it right away, but it doesn’t take long for them to realize that they do not want to urinate or create stools where they live and play.

Here are a few housebreaking tips that you can use today which will help get your puppy on his way to being properly trained when he has to use the bathroom:

1. When you wake up in the morning, avoid praising or greeting your puppy until he has used the bathroom. This will develop into a routine for him and once he realizes that he gets a lot of loving attention and praise after he uses the bathroom in the morning, this pattern will stick in his head and he will understand what to do in order to get what he wants, which is your praise!

2) Find one command, this command should be simple and to the point and should only be one command. Do not use multiple words as you are wanting to train the puppy to respond to the command but when you use multiple commands at different times, it will confuse them and no one wants that to occur.

If you need some great dog accessories to help potty train your puppy then now is your chance.

3. Whatever route you take when you leave him from the house to his potty area, use this same path every single time you take him to use the bathroom. This will help create a pattern so that he understands that it is time to go to the bathroom when you are walking him through the same route.

Do you need some dog clothes or even some bulk dog treats then make sure to do it right now!

4. And of course, it should go without saying that you need to use a lot of praise and loving caresses when your puppy properly uses the bathroom in the designated area. You must help him associate housebreaking with a positive experience and showering him with love and affection is the right way to do it.

Commonly, particularly in small spaces, male dogs are claimed by some dog keepers to be more hostile and destructive. Female dogs are said to be easier to train and more affectionate. These stereotypes may be true from one type but may not be true to another. If you know how to manage a dog being in heat or is ready to undergo his pet to the spaying method, then you might as well go for a female dog. Doggy birth control is an essential issue that you have to deal with since it will prevent additional litters of puppies, but if you just wont take the initiative to do so, then you better continuously find homes for those.

Pet Advice

You should know that the menopause is not something that female dogs have, thus, it is possible for female dogs to have puppies whenever they want to, not like with the human female that has a lot of issues to deal with first. You’ll spend weeks every year trying to guard your female from males who can catch the scent from blocks away. On the other hand, it would become a financial gain to have a female dog, if that particular dog is a pedigree that you just can breed.

Dog Advice

You just can’t stop male dogs from marking their so-called “territory” even if their inside your home or outdoors. Usually, for them to locate their “spot” again, they mark it by urinating on that area. You can try to school a dog not to mark his territory, but you’re asking him to go against his instincts. If you already have a male dog in your household and you have add another, then a fight on who becomes the boss is likely to be witnessed between those dogs. Even a smaller male dog will challenge or annoy the larger male - just to prove who was in the house first.

Fish Pets

Just like with humans where opposites attract, the same goes with dogs of dissimilar genders. Male dogs tend to be tough against other male dogs unlike female dogs, there are a number of female dogs who don’t like the idea of sharing their space with other dogs. Normally, you will find no trouble dealing with female dogs when it comes to house train as compared to male dogs which can be aggressive and reluctant, although that can vary by type and by the skill of the dog trainer. Generally, the high level of activity as well as energetic spirit belongs to the male dogs, but certain breeds are “highly strung” in both males and females. Many of the average individuals who are shopping for a dog would definitely look for a female dog. The idea that those dogs which are easier to school and less aggressive are the female ones is more likely to be the thought that they think in.

Nonetheless, they forget that female dogs can be highly temperamental. As for dog breeders, what they consider as pets which are easier to manage are the male dogs. Sex isn’t the only predictor (or even a good predictor) of how a dog will behave. Dogs from the type with calm and tolerant features tend to remain as it is no matter what their gender is. Other breeds that are feisty, nippy and difficult to manage are that way for males and females.

Since there’s no scientific evidence that predicts the features of males compare with females, then the decision about dog sex is fundamentally subjective. Chances are your memories of a childhood pet or a friend’s pet that you wish you had is what’s influencing your choice now.

Maybe you recall the gentle female Collie who lovingly looked after litter after litter of puppies as the ideal dog. Or maybe you can imagine a rough and tumble large male dog that can carry on playing and running inexhaustibly with children of so much curiosity and energy. Let your feelings determine as to what gender of the dog is best for you to own since you can’t actually have something more logical to help you with your choice. Whatever choice you make, as long as you have thought about it well, then that will unquestionably be the right one for you.

First Aid – Managing a Bleeding Wound

When it comes to young puppies, one thing that is most often common place is that the puppy will end up getting themselves into a situation where then somehow end up hurt. Puppies look at everything as a way to have fun, much like a child who always seems to have more fun with the box a toy came in rather than the toy itself.

Puppies can be injured from electric shock when chewing on wiring, they can suffer head trauma from items falling on them when they reach up to play with it, and they can suffer deep cuts and scrapes when messing around with sharp objects.

Today we are going to discuss how you can quickly help stop the bleeding should your puppy suffer from a cut. There are three general forms of bleeding as a result of an injury. Below are each of these types of bleeds along with a quick tip on treating the cut so that the bleeding can come to an end.

1. The first type of cut would be considered a normal cut or scrape as a result from normal everyday action. These type of injuries are not alarming and are just a regular part of your dog’s life. However, even though the cut or scrape is no big deal, that doesn’t mean it should be ignored. Simply treat the affected area with hydrogen peroxide twice per day until the healing has taken place. This will keep the cut from being infected as well as promote faster healing.

2. The second type of puppy bleeding can be in the form of a continuous flow or stream of blood. Should your pet start bleeding in this manner from a disaster, he will need medical attention immediately. Call your veterinarian or other available medical assistance. While waiting for help, raise the part of the body that is cut above the heart. In addition, it is important to apply several bandages over the blood-soaked area and apply pressure.

3. The third type of bleeding your puppy may suffer, and the most alarming, is if the blood is spurting out consistently. This type of bleeding is extremely serious and if you do not get help immediately, your puppy may go into shock and possibly die. The best thing that you can do here in this unfortunate scenario is to place bandages on the injured area, while elevating the limb, and apply steady pressure. Most importantly, get in your car and drive to the closest animal hospital that you can find.

Dogs & Kids – How Dogs Can Help Teach Your Children Responsibility

There are too many families out there that do not have a family dog as a pet. This is an unfortunate situation as there are so many benefits to your family simply by having one. Starting in their younger years, a puppy can truly bring in a whole new atmosphere of love and caring into a household as well as increasing the general well-being of the whole household.

What’s more important is that dogs are also an enormous benefit to children of all ages. Owning a dog is a great way to engage your kids in the process of responsibility. Teaching your children to be responsible is probably one of the most important aspects of being a parent. And why not have a little help in this department with the assistance of a brand-new puppy?

Once a puppy comes into your household, there are a lot of responsibilities that need to be taken care of so that the dog can be raised with good health, cleanliness, and training. Unfortunately, in this busy day and age, most of us are working eight to 12 hours daily and do not get to spend a lot of time with our children. When they come home from school and have no pressure towards completing household responsibilities, their work ethic and confidence may be shortchanged. This is where having a dog can help.

The family dog teaches responsibility!

Simply put, it takes a lot of work to maintain a dog in the house. And this work can be equally shared amongst your children. So long as they’re physically capable of tending to certain activities, your children will be able to help with walking the dog, feeding him, help with keeping the dog clean, play ball, etc.

For a child, taking care of a dog is all fun and games. The good point is that while this may all seem like fun and games, it is teaching your child a valuable lesson about responsibility for another life and as such, these behaviors of responsibility will also spread into their own personal life as well. Most of all, the children will feel as if they are fully responsible for the dog’s health and each and every time you take the dog to the vet along with the kids, tell them that the dog is healthy and loved because of them. This all goes hand-in-hand and the outcome is always great.

Dog Behavior – Begging for Food and Attention is a Bad Idea

Unless they are trained not to do so, most dogs will form the natural habit of begging for both attention and food. Some dog owners except this behavior and think it’s cute, but most people get annoyed very quickly when their dog starts to beg every time he wants love, attention, and especially when he smells something tasty cooking in the house.

What is wrong with begging you might ask?

Begging in simplicity is form of demand. You have to remember that your family and household are a pack with you as the top dog in charge of it all. There is a specific hierarchy to the whole unit. When you allow your dog to beg, you allow him to have a form of control within the pack and while it may seem cute and adorable, it can eventually lead to aggression and a challenge for leadership of the pack.

What, how much aggression could a begging dog show?

If you do not think that your dog could ever possibly bite your hand because he expects you to give him food every time he begs, think again. For years a friend of mine would hand feed his puppy pieces of food at any time of the day he was eating. If it were breakfast, his dog would get a two pieces of bacon. At lunch time my friend would hand feed his dog a few bites of his sandwich. The same went for dinner.

After some time, his dog matured and grew bigger, and my friend did not realize that he was reinforcing a dominant leadership role into his dog every time he gave in to begging. Once he decided to change this behavior with his dog, he learned quickly just how dangerous the situation was. At one of his meals, my friend absolutely refused to feed his dog anything and the begging and crying turned into aggression and barking. Then without notice, his dog leaped up onto his plate and snapped at the food, taking a little bit of my friends flesh with it.

Begging can be eliminated with proper training

The above example may seem a bit extreme and you still probably could never imagine you’re adorable dog biting you in the attempt to get food that he was expecting. However, the problem is real and you must start early in your puppy’s life with instilling the rules when it comes to begging.

You need to start training the dog while he is still a puppy, preferably before he reaches 15 weeks of age. During meal time, while you and the rest of the family is eating, train the puppy to sit and stay in one place until the meal is finished. After the meal is over, if he was truly a good dog and followed the rules throughout the meal, then offer him some praise and a warm meal in which he has to eat in his own food dish; never a dinner plate.
